Build a Pair of Dovetailed Tea Boxes with Mike Pekovich

tea box

If you've been thinking about taking the dovetail plunge, then this is the perfect project to get your feet wet. This elegant pair of tea boxes is a great exercise in hand-cut dovetails with a power tool assist. You'll learn the basics of layout and tool selection as well as tips for sawing and scribing for a perfect fit. Because you are making two boxes you can choose to make two different size boxes or make two in different species. You'll outfit the boxes with a partitioned liner, which is a great lesson in bird's mouth miter joints and we will top it off with an elegant ebony clasp. It's an intricate piece of joinery, but the table saw handles most of the work. As an added bonus we will finish the boxes in class so you should go home with two boxes ready for wrapping- just in time for the holidays!
Join Mike Pekovich, Fine Woodworking's art director and resident hand tool addict, for this fun two weekend class. Sign up today- space is limited. Tuition $495.00 plus materials.
